John LaMacchia writes and composes within a wide range of different musical styles. From the complex, staccato rhythm guitar found throughout the Candiria catalog, to the ambient synth based music of his side project, Spylacopa. From the mournful, electronic infused, alternative rock songs on his debut solo album to the free-form, post-jazz fusion guitar that he contributed to the Ghosts Of The Canal albums. Lastly there is the music of Julie Christmas where he writes heavy, down-tuned rhythm guitar and also uses an ambient coin bowing technique that is a staple across both of the artists albums.
A Brooklyn native who made a name for himself as the guitar player for the Math-core, fusion band, Candiria, John has contributed guitar, vocal, and synthesizer performances to dozens of releases throughout his career.
He has also written and improvised music for a number of collaborations with artists, designers, and dancers including performances at Hunter College, New York Fashion week and Brooklyn's long running community based art collective Micro Museum. In January of 2024 LaMacchia collaborated with visual artist Mumbot and composed music for a digital art installation that traveled to the international space station.
LaMacchia is currently performing with Julie Christmas in support of their critically acclaimed album Ridiculous And Full Of Blood. He is also playing regional dates in support of his debut solo album, Thunderheads. Recently he began collaborating with composer Mike Mare on a new music project with music slated to be released in 2025.
