Humans have a responsibility to be friendly to other human but humans don't accept that responsibility. Parents have a responsibility to their young and fail to have the innate skills needed to perform that job, yet it doesn't stop people from becoming parents. I find myself being shocked by the fundamental ironclad belief structures I have for myself and members of my creative tribe. It is important to me to be kind, why do I witness so much unkindness? It is important to me to be fair, why is so much unfairness everywhere I look. I must admit that I look away from the monster unkind and unfair situations around the world and even throughout my small directed life. I spent decades of my life unable to recognize the inner workings of the people closest to me. Maybe we have built-in blinders that keep us from fully seeing because humans are pre-designed to work in groups; like a kind of evolutionary self-preservation. Choreographers tend to have the ability to read people's body language well. One of my passions is reading non-verbal communication. It is both a science and an art. I study right wing media personalities because they puzzle me and because truth is; propaganda works. Theirs is a totally effective communication style that is both linguistically simple with manufactured body language and spearheading a radical verbal edge that sets the tone for any and all future mutual understandings or misunderstandings; as the case may be.
I wonder, are we designed to watch train wrecks and feel little to no empathy? It has come to my deeper understanding from social scientists that unless the horror event is actually happening to our personal physical bodies - humans either cannot or will not feel anyone else's pain. I guess that is as good a reason for perpetual forgiveness as any. But none of this helps us improve "group think" or value our fellow time travelers for a more productive harmony. Humans share so much together, and yet we cannot address some of our social dysfunction like USA chronic gun violence issues, mass incarceration, and environmental protections. Why do we fail so often? Is success singular and failure global?
As a young learner I found inspired through the inventions of Buckminister Fuller and much of his utopia vision but eventually read Ayn Rand to learn why right wing thinkers gravitated to that vision. Both thinkers practiced artificial concepts because they both activated imaginary worlds far from reality. To my chagrin I wish Fuller had been a better writer than Rand because her philosophy against the helping nature of humans has captivated right wing thinkers to the demise of collaborations and shared human goals.
